Today was a fairly low key day at Beggars Tomb. Moo and Patch rose early and forced me to let them enjoy the outdoors as they did their business. Then I had the pleasure of enjoying several chapters in one of the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery that I am reading trying to catch up the series. I can hardly believe I have missed three books! That will definitely have to be rectified. Then I had the opportunity to look at the news and as I have been recently reading about the sky rocketing costs of Obamacare, and the decline in income people are bringing home I have started thinking that surely the people we have elected to represent us are not so uneducated that they are unable to balance a checkbook or live within their means. I can think of no one that honestly expects that everything that they do will be perfect and make everyone happy, but I think we all as citizens have a realistic expectation that our government and the people working for it will do anything within their power to make sure that the United States is finically sound.
I suppose in many ways we as citizens expect too much from them. As a person in this country I am expected to pay my bills to maintain services and if I do not pay the bills I have to do without, but the people in our government seem to have no concept of a budget and exactly what it means to have to stay within a budget. This is yet another reason why the Washington elite are so far removed from the American public. Each of us get up and work every day to provide for ourselves and our families in order to ensure that we have a roof, lights, and food, yet our government does not exercise the same conviction that hard working Americans do. The premise that it is our responsibility to send untold billions of dollars to countries overseas makes absolutely no sense. We are unable to have people tour the White House, a building which the People own, but we can send millions of dollars to Egypt, and other countries around the world but yet we cannot pay our bills at home. Makes sense doesn’t it? We pay a quarter of a million dollars a year for a calligraphy department at the White House to write invitations I assume. I have to honestly say I cannot fathom that we have so many events that an entire department needs to be hired. Can you not use Vistaprint, or even Microsoft Word like the rest of us?
Of course the idea of financial responsibility seems to be as foreign to the United States government as the idea of a citizens Liberty is. How do they expect an American to trust its government when all it does is lie to the People and by their actions show they care more for Egyptians than Americans. This is yet another example of the reason that we have been operating under a foreign policy for the last 100 years that is wrong. We have spent billions of dollars propping up various governments around the world, just to go in and destroy them when they do something that we do not like. For example Sadaam Hussein, we put him in power to neutralize Iran and keep them at bay, but when his usefulness wore off we spilled American blood to destroy his regime. We all wonder how someone like Osama Bin Laden could operate in the world, but the truth is we trained him and supplied him because he was fighting the Russians at the time, but when his usefulness waned so did our need and we cast him aside just like the promises we have forgotten the United States has made to countless peoples around the world and even to our own citizens.
Our government has become the embodiment of a parasitic state. They drain the life blood from the American people and then have the audacity to expect the populous to thank them for it. The open the flood gates and throw billions of dollars out around the world but does it go to help people and make a difference? No. The money we give to poorer countries go to the rich people in the poor countries and very little if any ever makes it to the people that really could use the help. We as a Americans seem to be blinded by the dog and pony show that pits Democrats and Republicans against each other every two years, but in truth it’s more like the WWE than we will truly ever know. I take that back at least the WWE can be somewhat entertaining.
The America many of us grow to believe exists really doesn’t and when we realize what our country does really stand for it truly takes your breath away. We are no longer the land of the free. We no longer are a land of bountiful opportunity. We are a land of people that work to support an ever growing number of those that do not. I see countless articles, news reports, and even Facebook posts of the Democrats blaming the Republicans, and the Republicans firing back and saying that it is the Democrats that is causing the problems. In truth the blame to go around is equal as they both bear the responsibility for they are the ones that have made the unwise decisions and helped to make America an imperial tyranny that we fought a revolution to be free of. Recently, I have thought long and hard on the one defining factor that was the turning point of this nation as the land of the free to the land of the overtaxed, and the land where our rights and liberties are continually coming under attack from the very officials that have sworn an oath to protect them. I am reminded by the words of Kennedy, “We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution.” Heirs of that first revolution! We are the people that are supposed to be enjoying the liberty and freedom that so many before us have died to create and protect. The words John F. Kennedy spoke on that cold snowy day in 1961 seem to ring as true today and as clear as if it was the Liberty bell peeling in the steeple at Independence Hall. That day we as a nation had hope and a light that has seemed to be extinguished and lost. We have politicians running on platforms of hope and change but their hope and change is nothing more than ash and ruin as the tyrannical polices endure and are perpetuated without any possibility of change. There is no better description of what America wanted for the world and itself when President Kennedy said, “What kind of peace do I mean and what kind of a peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, and the kind that enables men and nations to grow, and to hope, and build a better life for their children—not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women, not merely peace in our time but peace in all time.” It is time for a renewal and a change in America. It is time for the voice of the People to be heard once more, and it is time for freedom and Liberty to reign throughout the land. Yes it is time for a smarter government, a government once again that serves the voice of the people.
